Pure Natura- environmental footprints

Renewable energy means energy that comes from a source that does not decrease but renews itself constantly despite being used. An example of this is e.g. solar energy, energy from wind, geothermal energy, hydroelectric power, energy from biomass, etc.
According to information from the International Energy Agency (IEA) for the years 2014-2016, only 22% of the electricity used in OECD countries is produced in a renewable manner, 60% of their electricity is produced with fossil fuels and 18% with nuclear power.

Between countries and regions, natural conditions vary considerably and therefore sources of available and suitable energy do as well. Fossil fuel energy sources, such as oil, coal, and gas, are not considered renewable because of their long renewal time compared to their utilization speed.

BELOW IS A DIAGRAM SHOWING THE EMISSION OF FOSSIL FUELS (CO2) IN PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY AND HEAT GENERATION – comparison of European countries

99.99% renewable energy sources
When it comes to energy Iceland is in a unique position compared to other countries. This is because its electricity production almost exclusively comes from renewable energy sources. In fact, 99.99% of its electricity is produced in a renewable manner. The nation’s energy is mainly comprised of hydropower (73%) and geothermal energy (26%), as well as imports of fossil fuels for cars and ships. Electricity production in Iceland leaves no greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, while in Europe the proportion of greenhouse gases from electricity generation is up to 80%. Reduced use of fossil fuels is one of the most challenging and urgent tasks facing the world in connection with today’s climate issues. The energy production in Iceland is therefore unique globally in this regard.

Pure Natura´s products are produced with energy derived from Iceland´s renewable sources – both hydropower and geothermal heat. This means that our production process leaves a minimum environmental impact and it allows us to stay true to our ideas of sustainability at all stages of the production. That is a very important fact, worth both celebrating and drawing attention to. Leaving behind as small an environmental footprint as possible in our production fits our Win-Win concept perfectly and hopefully, our consumers agree.
